Schools in Paphos
The standard of Cyprus education is outstanding with teaching facilities commencing with kindergarten, through
to further education colleges and Universities, so please do not let the education system be a major concern if you are considering living in Cyprus.
The majority of people that move to Paphos place their children in the International School of Paphos. It is possible to place your child into a Cypriot State School depending on their age and information can be obtained from the Cyprus Education Department.
INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF PAPHOS
Founded in 1988 as a Co-Educational Day and Boarding School. Today it can be seen as providing a very international Cyprus education, with children attending from over 20 different countries.
The school caters for:
Kindergarten and infants: Years 1 and 2
Junior Department: Years 3 to 6
Secondary Department: Years 7 to 13
All pupils are required to sit tests in English, Mathematics and Science, according to their age level, upon entry to the School. These tests are designed to give the School an accurate assessment of a child's capabilities and to determine what level of attainment has been reached, assisting in the direction and planning of any necessary corrective action with their Cyprus education.
a) The teaching medium is English and the School caters for the needs of children from Kindergarten to Sixth Form offering subjects at Ordinary and Advanced Level G.C.E. and at General Certificate of Secondary Education Level. The School is mindful of the English National Curriculum, but has a more flexible and individual approach to all curriculum and wider Cyprus education matters. School commences at 07:40 for all ages and the school day ends at 12:55 for Juniors and 14:05 for seniors. However, from 14:05 activities such as societies, clubs and Private Institute lessons then begin.
b) The Private Institute.
The Institute provides tuition in English Language, Economics, History, and Human Biology. There is the facility to offer additional subjects, particularly mathematics, Greek, French and other Sciences. Russian too, is a probability to enhance Cyprus education.
The teachers are carefully selected, not only for academic expertise but for personal qualities and experience.
CURRICULUM AND EXAMINATIONS
