The majority of people that move to Paphos place their children in the International School of Paphos. It is possible to place your child into a Cypriot State School depending on their age and information can be obtained from the Cyprus Education Department. INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF PAPHOS Founded in 1988 as a Co-Educational Day and Boarding School. Today it can be seen as providing a very international Cyprus education, with children attending from over 20 different countries. The school caters for: Kindergarten and infants: Years 1 and 2 Junior Department: Years 3 to 6 Secondary Department: Years 7 to 13
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS All pupils are required to sit tests in English, Mathematics and Science, according to their age level, upon entry to the School. These tests are designed to give the School an accurate assessment of a child's capabilities and to determine what level of attainment has been reached, assisting in the direction and planning of any necessary corrective action with their Cyprus education. TEACHING a) The teaching medium is English and the School caters for the needs of children from Kindergarten to Sixth Form offering subjects at Ordinary and Advanced Level G.C.E. and at General Certificate of Secondary Education Level. The School is mindful of the English National Curriculum, but has a more flexible and individual approach to all curriculum and wider Cyprus education matters. School commences at 07:40 for all ages and the school day ends at 12:55 for Juniors and 14:05 for seniors. However, from 14:05 activities such as societies, clubs and Private Institute lessons then begin. b) The Private Institute. The Institute provides tuition in English Language, Economics, History, and Human Biology. There is the facility to offer additional subjects, particularly mathematics, Greek, French and other Sciences. Russian too, is a probability to enhance Cyprus education. TEACHING STAFF The teachers are carefully selected, not only for academic expertise but for personal qualities and experience. CURRICULUM AND EXAMINATIONS Within the Infant and Junior departments, through to year 6, basic skills in oracy, numeracy and literacy are paramount. Good handwriting and spelling are taught and attainment in all areas is closely monitored. In addition, pupils undertaking a Cyprus education at this school study Science, the Humanities, Greek, Art and Design, Drama, Information Technology, Music, and Physical Education. In Years 7, 8, and 9. A broad Curriculum consisting of Mathematics, English Language and Literature, the Humanities, Greek, French, and German, the Sciences, Computing, Music, and Physical Education is pursued. In Years 10 and 11. The Core Curriculum of Mathematics, English Language and Science and more specialised Options are taken mainly to Ordinary Level G.C.E., but subjects at I.G.C.S.E. are also available. Advanced level G.C.E. subjects are studied in years 12 and 13. Subjects available depend on demand, but the School has the capacity to offer Pure Mathematics, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, French, German, Modern Greek, History, Economics, English Literature and Art and Design.
